Kreacher isn’t the most cheerful of house-elves, but he seems to get even more dour around Christmastime.
“It’s just Kreacher,” Harry says, laughing when Draco mentions it, as though he’s not fond of him in his own way. “He’s just a Grinch.”
Standing in the hallway at Number 12 Grimmauld Place, looking at the empty space where Great-Aunt Walburga’s portrait used to hang, Draco thinks he might understand. There’s still a crumpled-up letter in his pocket from his mother. It’s hard when things change, but sometimes that’s better than the alternative.
Draco just nods; Kreacher doesn’t want to be thanked.
