Harry spends too many nights crouched over in bed, curtains drawn, tracing the pattern of footsteps on a map.
“You need to stop obsessing,” Ron tells him. Harry shakes his head, doesn’t listen.
Draco spends too many nights frantically trying to fix a broken cabinet, keep his parents alive, keep a mass murderer appeased by succeeding with an impossible mission.
Years later, Harry still dreams about Malfoy, crying in a bathroom, spiderwebbing cracks spiralling out to trace what’s thicker than water.
Heart pounding, he blinks himself awake, the dream-chaos slowly draining away. Beside him in the bed, Draco is warm.
