That night Harry fell asleep alone: a smile on his face and plans in mind.
He woke early and went for his customary run before the day got too warm, and asked a house-elf for breakfast in his quarters. He showered quickly, then wolfed down an omelet and juice with little thought to his meal as he carefully outlined the list of tools and supplies he needed to build Draco a Muggle booster line. He called the same mobile store, ordered a fancy Android, and had them ship it to Hermione again. Then, done with breakfast, he got to work.

Harry spent the whole day carefully building Draco’s new Muggle booster line. It was harder this time. This one had to be portable.
He found almost everything he needed in his own supplies, but snuck around the castle in his Invisibility Cloak to find more copper wire and a few ounces of Glycolic acid.
A thousand times he considered other technological marvels and electronic toys he could buy for Draco, then rebuked himself a thousand times: Draco should have the option of privacy for phone calls, but Harry wanted Draco to listen to music and watch movies on Harry’s couch.

It was dismaying, really, how much of that long, exciting (but suddenly also so lonely) Thursday Harry wasted staring into space, dreaming about dancing with Draco again; imagining cuddling up together on his couch to watch more romantic movies.
Nonetheless, he managed to finish the project only about an hour after eating the day’s third solitary meal, off hidden in his quarters and wondering if Draco would be pleased with his gifts.
To test it, he carefully shut down his own booster, then fired up the new one — tall and spindly in the center of his rug — to call Hermione.

She answered after a few rings. “Hermione Granger speaking.”
Harry was pleased to notice her voice came through clear and loud. Not a crackle, wobble, or glitch. “Did any of the phones I ordered arrive yet?” he asked.
“Well, and a pip pip cheerio to you too!” she joked, and Harry felt his face heat.
“Sorry, sorry,” he mumbled. “No need to tease. How was your day, how is Ron, all that rot?”
“I’ll let you off the hook,” Hermione said, clearly amused. “I can tell you’ve got it pretty bad. I haven’t seen you romance someone this eagerly since…”
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
“Yeah, yeah,” Harry muttered, already sorry he’d had the phones shipped to her.
“And the answer is yes,” Hermione continued. “Both phones arrived today. I wore gloves to put the boxes in plastic bags and seal them with Colloportus. I can owl the first one to Blaise or Pansy tonight. Should be perfectly safe.”
Harry nodded. “From what little I’ve heard Draco say, I think we try Pansy first. Do you think she’d be less freaked out by my Patronus, or yours?”
“Pfft, your stag for sure,” Hermione said. “Everyone in Britain recognizes yours. I’ll write her a letter instead.”
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
“A letter?” Harry interrupted, confused.
“I can send it with the phone. I’ll explain that I can talk her through everything in her garden, from a bit of a distance. Hopefully it will all be easy, and she can let Blaise know to expect me at his, after I finish up at work tomorrow.”
“That sounds great,” Harry said, relieved. He’d not actually figured out all the piddling details and was grateful to Hermione for taking up his slack.
“Is Draco’s booster line done, then?”
“I’m using it to call you now,” Harry said, proud. “This was the last test.”
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
“Oh, good show,” Hermione said, approval ringing through. “Your voice is clear as day.”
“Yours as well,” Harry said, sitting up straighter and smiling.
“That’s you done then,” Hemione observed. “The next steps are for me. Hopefully both Blaise and Pansy have their homes warded lightly enough that they can speak to Draco without always going outside,” Hermione said. “The weather is only going to get hotter from here.”
“Do you think a cooling charm would interfere with cell reception?” Harry asked.
“No, you're right, it wouldn’t,” Hermione said slowly. “I’ve already tested that supposition without even thinking about it.”
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
“So you’ll owl Pansy’s new mobile over now, I’ll send a Patronus telling her what to expect and why, and when Pansy owls you back you can head over and teach her how to use it. We’ll do the same for Blaise tomorrow and while he’s learning his mobile I’ll give Draco his, and he can call them.”
“Exactly,” Hermione agreed, sounding pleased. “Assuming Draco’s arrives tomorrow.”
“I did pay extra for rush shipping,” Harry said.
“I’m sure it will come tomorrow,” Hermione said, gentle as though Harry were a startled cat.
“It better,” Harry said, and found himself frowning.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
There were limits to how well Harry could keep a secret, so he hid away for another day. He went to meals after Draco left (thank you, Marauder’s Map!), helped Hagrid garden, and got some boring reading done for work.
When Hermione got home from work she called right away. Draco’s phone had indeed arrived, and she sealed it up and Flooed it right to Harry’s room. He hit the outer packaging with a disinfecting charm and got right to work programming the phone and downloading a few, very straightforward and helpful apps.
This was going to be so great.
