Watching Teddy playing, Draco sometimes feels like he’s slipped sideways, staggering off-balance.
No one is telling Teddy that he’s wrong. Maybe not in words, but in the tightening of a lip, the firming of a mouth. Thinking back to childhood, Draco remembers an undercurrent of violence. The sense that he needed to figure out all these secret rules, hidden expectations.
It use to feel like a game, made him feel powerful when he got it right. Now it just makes him feel sick.
“You’re such a good boy.” Bellatrix mocking, him still.
Draco buries his face in Harry’s back, breathes.
