“So,” Draco said, falsely bright. “We’ve had enough stress for today. I shall sleep at Harry’s. It will give you an opportunity to consider your feelings; perhaps make a decision without me about, making you feel pressured.”

He forced a smile while she stared, either stunned or furious. He thought to kiss her cheek, but at the last moment decided to ask permission.

“May I kiss you goodbye then, Mummy?” he asked.

She inclined her cheek imperiously. He hid his sad smile.

“I wake at dawn nowadays,” she offered. Then she swept away in a perfumed cloud of lilac wool.

Draco packed a small bag and Flooed to his new boyfriend’s house.

“How’d it go?” Harry asked, handing him a double firewhiskey, neat.

“She wakes at dawn,” Draco stage-whispered melodramatically. He threw back a large swallow, then threw himself onto Harry’s chesterfield. Harry leaned forward and waited.

“It went better than I thought possible,” Draco said, frowning at his half-empty glass. “Which is to say, awful, but it could nonetheless have been so much worse. I made it clear that if she cannot stop trying to change my orientation she can bloody well move out.”

“Whoa,” Harry said, clearly impressed.

I agree with Draco that it could have gone much, much worse. She could have drawn her wand. She could have yelled. she could have tried harder to manipulate him. She could have found a more effective way and succeeded!

And do you really think the place where she raised her only child holds no happy memories for her now? I don't see that. Draco did not use a mocking or condescending tone when he called her Mummy twice. He wants to have a good relationship with her.

Well to me, the fact that her husband harbored a pack of killers within that house for more than a year, where evil magic soaked into to walls, in addition to the fact that they were under constant threat of death + the fact that she was attacked within these walls and now her son refusing to continue the life that she planned for him, would throw the first 15 years within she might have been happy in that house. So yes from my understanding of cannon, Narcissa has no true attachment to Malfoy Manor.

Going worse, right as I said I don'T see her as the type to pull a wand on her son, and she did try to manipulate him. Since he has finally grown a backbone he was more aware of it than before and that is good. The Mummy thing is more my own feeling, I don't like it when grown up people use the term, because it feels like either they are making themselve smaller than they are to pacify their parents, or it is a slightly mocking element to it. I love my mom dearly, but calling her "mummy" would never cross my mind. I did that when I was five not when I am in my thirties.

Well, I can see that, but I disagree. I think Narcissa has no intention of letting the ghost of Voldemort chase her out of her own home. She made it through that difficult time and now she wants to forget it ever happened and go back to a nice life with her son. She's quite annoyed at him for not going along with her plans.

Oh I can see that. Thankfully Draco is done indulging her stupidity.
