Draco paused, uncertain. He sensed an opportunity, but tongue-tied, he wasn’t sure how to avail it. To his surprise, Mother spoke again, though he’d not answered.

“The things… he said,” Narcissa suppressed a delicate shudder and drank more wine before continuing. “Plenty of men, like him, like Lucius, like my father, have made it abundantly clear thoughout my life: they find witches to be inferior. Because we take them inside ourselves, willing or no, and they feel superior because they,” she flushed and looked down. “Forgive my blunt words,” she said.

“I will cope,” Draco said. “I want to listen.”

And we are getting closer to the problem that Narcissa really has with her son being gay. I can't image it being easy to accept that a man would also willingly take another into his body and thus "degrade" himself in the eyes of another man such as Lucius or her father would have seen it. But Narcissa doesn't understand yet that there is NO weakness in a true loving relationship. It is not about submission and being owned.

Damn now I want to hug her and tell her it will be alright.

Exactly. Narcissa suffers from the same type of sexism she imposes upon her son. That's how an oppressive culture works, unfortunately. So, yes, she has suffered, and she's giving him the only thing she knows — the things she's been taught all her life. Luckily, she's really quite intelligent. We're almost there. :)

(And she totally deserves hugs. If she consents to receive them, of course. Consent is critical. Another thing Narcissa was definitely not taught by her parents or her culture.)
