Draco sat up straight. “So if my friends bought... that device? We could talk again?”

“They’d have to have mobiles already,” Harry said. “I can’t imagine we could get a pureblood all set up on a new mobile, with the stores closed, me not able to help.”

Draco slumped a bit, clearly dejected, and Harry panicked.

“But!” He tried, “we could— I mean— this?” He turned his phone on and started tapping.

“Hi Harry!”

“Hermione, can we switch to Facetime? I want to show Draco, here.”

“Draco Malfoy?” Hermione Granger said, her distinct voice emerging from the mobile. “Of course.”

Draco was chatting lightly with Hermione, cautious joy evident on his face.

Harry? Was plotting.

He wasn’t certain who Draco’s closest friends were, but Parkinson worked at the Daily Prophet and Zabini worked for a potions lab that supplied Wheezes. That implied both were in London much of the time. Draco would need a “muggle booster line” in his room for a mobile to work, but Harry could make him one with stuff laying about the castle. And if Hermione could help Pansy or Blaise get and set up a mobile… they just might be able to make Draco’s day.

“That was pleasant,” Draco said after they said goodbye to Hermione.

“I’m glad,” Harry said, his face relaxing into a smile.

“Sadly, I agree. Too Muggle for a pureblood to manage alone, especially with the pandemic.”

Harry nodded solemnly, giving (he hoped) nothing away. He’d no intention of telling Draco until he knew it would work. If he and Hermione couldn’t find a way to get some Slytherin from their year set up with a working phone, Harry didn’t want Draco to know about the attempt until the pandemic was over and Draco heard it from Pansy or whoever directly.
