Draco stands on the walkway in the park, face upturned as the flakes of first snow fall. It’s thick and fast this year. When he’d left the house, the clouds had only been full of promise, but by now the ground is thickly blanketed with white.

Reaching into his pocket, the texture of crumpling parchment reminds him of his mother’s letter.

“You should do what you want,” Harry had said at the supper table, eyes warm.

With a whisper, wand held in his other pocket, the letter becomes tiny flakes of paper that mingle with the swirling snow and dissipate.
