Harry steps into the front hall of the manor. The space is vast, chandeliers and stairs and portraits that gaze down on him with blank expressions. Draco’s fingers are tangled in his, pulling him along.

Each hallway leads to another; Harry catches glimpses of rooms through half-open doors: ballrooms and receiving rooms and guest rooms and countless others. For every open door, there are a handful of closed ones, and he’s not even sure what might lie beyond them.

Draco pauses, footsteps halting, to catch Harry’s eye. “Don’t be intimidated,” he says. “The surface is beautiful, but it’s rotten underneath.”
