The last plant Draco needed — Prancing Parade Perennials — weren’t themselves unsafe. But the pink and purple ones (what Draco needed most), tended to grow both around and inside acromantula nests. Draco looked genuinely nervous as he explained.
“Now Harry, I completely understand if you would prefer not to assist me with this potentially dangerous endeavor,” he babbled, looking quite apologetic and perhaps even downcast. Harry felt his heart and stomach clench in sympathy. “I can certainly purchase the needed petals instead, I often do, it is only that—”
Feeling awkward, Harry patted Draco on the shoulder. “It’s honestly fine,” he promised.

“What good is it,” Harry joked, “to bring the DADA professor along on a mission to gather ingredients from the Forbidden Forest, if you don’t actually take advantage of my hard-earned skillset, yeah?”
“Thank you, Harry,” Draco said. He still held himself tightly, but Harry saw his shoulders relax slightly, and counted it as a personal victory.
“So,” Harry said, turning in the direction he was fairly sure led to the acromantulas he’d met in the forest years before. “We need to get you a few ounces of pink and purple petals from some Prancing Parade Perennials, right? Lead on!”

“Merlin,” Draco said, relaxing a bit more, through the shoulders and jawline. “The overwhelming alliteration doesn’t really hit until someone speaks.”
Harry started walking and Draco fell in, a half-step behind and to Harry’s left. Both had their wands out, and Harry cast shields and protections over them as they pushed deeper into the forest.
“Alliteration is the way of the wizarding world. Even I know that. We should probably be quieter, yeah? At this time of day acromantulas should be asleep, but it isn’t like we can be certain.”
Draco nodded, and they moved quietly together, toward the flowers.

Thank Merlin, Harry thought as they snuck away from the largest acromantula cluster he’d ever seen, acromantulas don’t wake to the beating of frantic human hearts. He and Draco had been terrified to wake a monster while harvesting enough Prancing Parade petals to last Draco through what he’d whispered would be at least four years of advanced classes.
Thanks to judiciously applied magic, their rush away was quiet. They didn’t so much as speak until clearing the last of the trees.
But when they arrived at the castle’s vast lawn, Harry couldn’t help but break down into slightly hysterical laughter.
