Harry’s sitting on the counter in the kitchen, heels tapping against the wooden drawer-fronts, and guiltily nibbling on some shortbread out of sight of Kreacher who’s grumbling in the library, when Draco come back from the manor.
Harry’s ready with excuses when he sees the small opalescent head peering over Draco’s collar.
“A snake?” Harry means to ask Draco, but it comes out in Parseltongue instead.
“Yesss,” the snake replies politely. Its golden eyes are very calm. “You are a descendant of Salazar Slytherin?”
Harry blocks the snake from view to hiss in English this time, “Draco, what’s going on?”
