Harry blinks. It’s quiet, for a moment, and he can feel the instant Draco’s fingers around his loosen, as though to slip away—

Harry doesn’t think, he just grips tighter, holds faster. Draco’s eyes meet his; he’s biting his bottom lip, his expression far too reminiscent of when he’s just said something that he knows will offend some pure-blood and it’s just that Harry’s not sure what to say.

“Of course you’re the child,” he says, mind racing, trying to understand. He can feel his stomach drop to the floor when he can tell that this wasn’t the right answer.

Poor Draco (and I) have been aiming for this since January. Since January! And Draco still can't get the words out and I don't know how to make him. Pour soup. We'll get there.
