Dear Mrs Malfoy,

Draco probably told you already, but he left me. He was angry I wrote you, so maybe I shouldn’t have, but I meant it when I said I feel connected to you not because of Draco, but because you saved my life. Except, I know you saved my life so you could save Draco’s, so maybe I’m confused?

Anyway, if it’s weird to see me on Boxing Day I understand. But I have a house-elf, so maybe you could come for dinner or tea or something? You can leave Draco home if we have to.

Mummy,
I know you. You haven’t written because you hate to say no to me but on this thing you don’t want to say yes. Let me remind you why I am right.

Mummy, just think how battered we are likely to feel after spending Christmas Day traveling to and then from Azkaban. Think how we are likely to have been treated. I know I am not going to want to entertain anyone, but I know you, and tea will not be enough. You will insist Harry is too thin and tell him he must stay for dinner as well.

I fear you will exhaust yourself preparing something wonderful for the Precious Saviour’s dinner. But I know him, Mummy. He has terrible manners and plebeian taste. He wants nothing more than Shepherd’s Pie and treacle tart because he is the epitome of a middle-class half-blood raised by muggles. I cannot understand why you have yet to withdraw your invitation.

If you have somehow convinced yourself I secretly long for him, or some other such foolishness, know I most certainly do not! He was a tempting diversion with a pretty face and an adventurous spirit, nothing more.

Interesting, I am commeting on the last two parts together. I loved Draco's first letter, until the last lines because then he came across not as a person who has gone through war and has grown from it, although he still retained his Slytherin character, but like a wining baby that no one can take serious. He is 17 here. I for the life of me cannot see him write something so ridiculous as "your baby dragon"

Telling his mother that he does not want to see Harry is one thing, but to be like "I'll cry if you make me?' no that was too much.

Harry on the other side here, hm trying to get between mother and son. I have no idea if that is the best way to go forward, it for sure remains interesting to see where you are going with this.

Ah, I think Draco is vacillating back and forth, because he is very young and therefore not actually all that mature yet. And he is *quite* used to his mummy spoiling him rotten. Harry, too, is incredibly inexperienced and doesn't really know wtf he is doing here.

But my goal has been to reveal things through their letters (Draco, primarily), and I hope that when all is said and done I will have written this well enough that you will be able to go back and think, "Ah, yes, he is like that. I see it in his letter."

Much like the way Harry could use Draco's letters, utterances, etc., to figure out that Draco is not straight, and probably not even bisexual.
