Harry jerked his head up, not caring to hide his dismay. “No,” he said, honesty ripped out of his heart. “It didn’t.”

Draco walked away from the window to finally stand near Harry. He looked down and took a deep, visible breath. “That was simultaneously incredibly thoughtful and incredibly thoughtless. I may have sent… mixed signals that first evening. I’d little idea what you wanted and no capacity to press for answers. But how could you not see as time progressed I was enjoying your company without reservation? That I wanted to spend the majority of my time with you?”

“You never said?” Harry blurted.

“Look,” Draco said, walking over and putting a tentative hand down on Harry’s forearm. “I appreciate this gift. I look forward to learning to use it and contacting friends I’ve missed tremendously. I do not plan to drop you like a cursed quaffle the moment I feel confident with the, er… mobile?”

Harry nodded.

“But if we are going to be spending the majority of our time together, I have to ask that you be more aware of my feelings.”

Harry hung his head. “I want to be,” he said, miserable. “But I’m an idiot.”
